The District aims to establish a welcoming and vibrant environment that draws people to downtown West Lafayette for natural gathering. Development of four new streets along with the Wood Street Greenway has been designed to implement findings from the August 2024 West Lafayette Downtown Traffic Study. Wood Street, Roebuck Street, Street B, and Street E provide continuous pathways that promote pedestrian use as well as exploration and interaction. Wood Street Greenway forms a beautiful pedestrian trail between the new Wood Street extension and State Street to improve walkability and public access to green spaces.
The District's design integrates landscape architecture and placemaking principles to create unified character across its spaces. The proposed structures will occupy five to six floors and match the objectives of the West Lafayette Downtown Plan. City staff closely collaborated to develop this project which supports the City’s strategic goals to expand housing options, create greenspaces and improve downtown street networks as described in the West Lafayette 2025-2026 Strategic Plan.
The District helps to advance the housing goals of West Lafayette by supplying approximately 960 housing units over multiple phases. The District will promote West Lafayette's vibrant future through its thoughtful design and intentional planning. The approximate unit mix is as follows:
